Would love 2 read this book

Bintou's braids

Another interesting book by Dr Sylviane Diouf

She's serious...one of those deep women, Sylviane is a professor, a well respected writer who writes about African ancestry in America as well as being the current curator at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in NY.

What I find interesting about the work of Dr Diouf is that part of it focuses on the
Muslim slaves that moved to America, in fact her book "Servants of Allah: African Muslims Enslaved in the Americas deals solely on this sometimes forgotten aspect of slavery . Among some of the books that she has written, you can find this other very interesting book about this "group" of
African slaves in Alabama who worked hard to keep their traditions intact even after they were freed, the book is called "Dreams of Africa in Alabama"...

Dr Sylviane has also written books for our young'uns such as "Bintou's Braids"...
I'm really diggin' this woman , it would truly be interesting having diner w/her to learn a bit more about our history..don't be surprised for those of you who may live in America on docs on ABC or PBS where she often shares her knowledge...love a smart woman:)

Here's her official webbie:

Here's also for those of u who may be interested a little piece about the Muslims slaves in America :
Djaa we gotta thank women like Sylviane Diouf that bring attention 2 our history:)
